Liu Shusheng's Preface to the "Proofread Version of the Lights of the Songs of Chu"

林氏《楚辞灯》一书,将二千余年来王逸、朱熹等人的注释统统斥之为"暗室",这是不公平的。但林云铭此书力主层次分析,并且身体力行,仅此一点,就完全可以在中国楚辞研究史上卓然特立,名垂千古。在强调对楚辞进行层次分析这一点上,林云铭并非首创者,而在对《天问》一诗用层次分析法进行解读之实践上,他确实是中国骚学史上第一人。刘树胜君能对《楚辞灯》进行点校,可谓慧眼独具,其对于推进和深化楚辞研究,意义非凡。

Lin＇s work, ＂the Lights of the Songs of Chu＂, criticized all the commentators to ＂the Songs of Chu＂ through over two thousand years like Wang Yi and Zhu Xi , in which their comments were denounced ＂dark room＂ by him. That was not fair. Lin Yunming strongly upheld hierarchy analysis in his book and set a good example personally. Only by this, he can outstandingly lead the history of the study of ＂the Songs of Chu＂ for thousands of years. Lin Yunming wasn＇t the first to emphasize hierarchy analysis of ＂the Songs of Chu＂ but he was the first in the practice of interpreting ＂ Tianwen （Inquiring the Heaven） ＂ in the way of hierarchy analysis. So he is really the first person in the history of ＂Li Sao＂. The fact Mr. Liu Shusheng proofread ＂the Lights of the Songs of Chu＂ indicates his unique outlook and has significant meaning in pushing and deepening the study of ＂the Songs of Chu＂.
