Magic,Alchemy,Witchcraft and Humanity A Review of the Works of 1960s-born Tsinghua Architecture Alumni

当代清华建筑学人的工作,很大程度上取决于清华建筑教育"文化先于形式"的建筑价值预设。神通、仙术、妖法、人道,构成了清华建筑学人工作的四个象限。

The creative output by contemporary Tsinghua alumni in architecture has largely been determined by the architectural value judgment presupposed in the principle ＇culture before form＇ which runs through Tsinghua＇s architectural education. By analyzing works of some representative Tsinghua alumni who were born in 1960s, the author tries to argue that, their works have consituted four different types/dimensions of Tsinghua works described by the author as ＇magic＇, ＇alchemy＇, ＇withcraft＇ and ＇humanity＇, respectively, showing four distinct ways to deal with culture, form and architectue, which all embodied and developed Tsinghua＇s motto ＇culture before form＇.
