This article offers an analytic description of the types of academic conflicts—discussion and debate,their defini- tions and basic process,makes a comparison betweenthe mer- its and demerits of each type of the contentions,and advances a practical plan for heuristic teaching through contention as a valuable suggestion for teaching reform.
