赛珍珠的《母亲》刻画了母亲这一贤良、宽容、勤劳的中国妇女形象。母亲是一家人物质以及精神上的大地。大地与女性共同具有的孕育功能,大地与女性之于人类的重要意义以及大地与女性在父权制社会的地位,使两者建立起了亲密而又特殊的关系。《母亲》不但探讨了女性和其他弱者的生存环境及社会地位等问题,同时也关怀着被人类破坏的自然生态环境。

Pearl S. Buck＇s works distinguish themselves with the author＇s unique aesthetic style and her sympathetic reflection upon life and humankind. Her book The Mother has not only paid attention to the social status of women, but also to the condition of natural environment and the living condition of lower classes. This paper tries to analyses the ecological thoughts in Pearl S. Buck＇s The Mother, ho- ping this will help to promote the further study of Pearl S. Buck＇s works and the research of eco--femi- nist criticism.
