摘要
做手机、平板电脑业务的ARM军团,正在数据中心市场荡起一圈圈涟漪。
'Not so much faster; only a little faster', said Lin Shiding, chief cloud architect of Baidu in his Weibo. What he referred to by 'a little faster' is that Baidu's Nanjing Data Center chose ARM storage servers for commercial use this January, which is the first case among all data centers in the world. In January too, during a conference on the new data center architecture, Facebook talked about ARM for the first time. Obviously, Baidu is a little faster. Some insiders also said that Taobao is testing ARM storage servers. ARM, a core chip provider in mobile phone and pad market, is swinging ripples in the data center field. The emergence of cloud computing, big data, social network as well as others has changed the modes of data centers, and this is the driving force for ARM's new business. With flexible business mode and certain technical advantages, ARM provides a more economical solution for data centers to cope with the rising demands: scaling out rather than scaling up. Will ARM successfully wedge into the data centers and grab a share from Intel? It remains to be seen.
