台静农:不归故园的“燃灯人”

Tai Jingnong—the “Lighter” Far Away from Hometown

台静农是中国现代史上一个极为复杂多元的人物,他在文学、教育、书艺方面都有不凡的造诣。这位"新文学的燃灯人"早年致力于民间歌谣的搜集与研究,以乡土文学代表现身于中国新文坛。文学创作为台静农奠定了中国文学史讲师的基础,他先后在北平、厦门、青岛、白沙、台湾等多所高校任教。青年时代的台静农曾三遭牢狱之灾,中年之后渡海赴台,蜗居台湾40余年不归故园。台静农是鲁迅的门人和挚友,但晚年不提鲁迅,不谈"五四",淡出文坛,凸显出一个身经丧乱热血之士的复杂人格。

Tai Jingnong, a complex figure in contemporary Chinese history, who has marvelous attain- ments in literature, education and art. As the ＂lighter＂ of new literature, he devoted to collecting and researching ballads in his early years, and joined Chinese new literary arena as a representative of native literature. Literature creation laid a solid foundation of his position of lecturer in Chinese history of liter- ature. He imparted knowledge in several colleges and universities of Beiping, Xiamen, Qingdao, Baisha and Taiwan successively. He was put into prison for three times in the youth years. After middle age, he went to Taiwan where he stayed for 40 years and never came back. Tai Jingnong was Lu Xun＇s disci- ple and intimate friend. However, he didn＇t refer to Lu Xun and the May 4th Movement in his late years and faded out of literary arena, highlighting the complex personality of a warm--blooded man going through difficulties and frustrations.
