8:30 in the morning on April 20,a quiet business hotel located in Chengdu immediately became filled with noise of people.This was the situation at the offices of the One Foundation 20 minutes after the 7.0 earthquake that hit Ya'an,Sichuan.After its establishment as an independent private charitable fundraising organization in 2011,the Foundation's board of directors soon came to be comprised of a newly emerging class of elite figures.By April 25 the One Foundation had received over 142 million yuan in earthquake disaster relief donations. The board of directors of the One Foundation is like a country club for China's elite.The elite of a society helps determine the social progress of a nation;the attitude and actions taken when it comes to dealing with the disasters of others is the perfect litmus test to help us view the true nature of that elite.Is this new rising class up to the challenge? Do they have what it takes to successfully carry out charitable activities?
