The new poems of China's Mainland in the 1950s constitute an era featuring both the vitality and plight of poems derived from the clash between their attempt to establish the political predomi- nance of revolutionary poetry and the inherent multivariate forces of poems. During this period, the clash between collective warsongs and individual emotions, the conflict between political carols and the true feelings of the people, the fate of varieties of non-mainstream poems, all reflect the limited range of new poems of China's Mainland in the 1950s. Together with those in Taiwan and Hongkong, they constitute the development of Chinese new poems over 1949.
