Li Dou＇s Records of Yangzhou Huafang, with its basic properties of dynastic miscellane- ous notes of local history, is an epitome of the Chinese society in the golden age of Emperor Qianlong and is an essential document for the research of mid--Qing Chinese society. Compared with the previ- ous and contemporaneous literary sketches, it has three prominent characteristics in content： abun- dance, authenticity and humanity. In its artistic aspect, it features a unique style and layout and con- cise and lively narrative. With the in--depth research, it will increasingly show its great documentary and literary value and its important position and impact in both regional culture and Qing Dynasty studies will be more outstanding.
