Objective: To study the expression of transcription factor SOX2 in carcinoma of gallbladder and discuss its clinical significance. Methods: Tissue of gallbladder from 42 cases of carcinoma and 30 cases of gallbladder stone with chronic cholecystitis were collected and detected the expression of transcription factor SOX2 by polymerase chain reaction(PCR).Results: The relative expression of SOX2 mRNA in gallbladder carcinoma group and gallbladder stone with chronic cholecystitis group were 2.9 ±0.5 and 2.2 ± 0.6 respectively, and the difference has statistical significance(P〈0.05).Moreover,in gallbladder carcinoma group, the level of SOX2 mRNA was related to clinical stage, pathology differentiation, lymph node metastasis(P〈0.05),but not related to age, sex, with or without gallbladder stone and chronic cholecystitis, tumor site and size(P〈0.05).Conclusion: SOX2 may play a role in gallbladder carcinoma cell development, differentiation and evolution.
