对《高等学校英语专业英语教学大纲》提出的英语专业人才的培养目标进行反思,指出英语专业改革的核心是培养具有批判性思维能力的英语人才。英美文学对培养学生的批判性思维能力起着重要的作用。以戏剧《威尼斯商人》的教学为例探讨了培养批判性思维能力的英美文学教学模式实施的具体环节和应注意的问题。

This paper has a reflection of the cultivation objectives for English specialties in ＂English Teaching Sylla- bus for English Major in Universities＂. It points out that the center of reforming English major is to cultivate critical thinking of English specialties. English and American Literature plays a quite important role in cultivating critical thinking. Taking the teaching of the drama The Merchant of Venus as the example, this paper finally discusses the procedures and the questions which should be paid attention to when the critical - thinking - oriented English and American Litera- ture teaching mode is carried on.
