语义学的一大任务是阐明词语与世界上事物之间的联系,而这种联系的确立离不开指称。探讨词语是通过哪些方式和途径来确定指称对象,也就可以正确把握词语与事物之间的关系。英语指称惯用的表现形式主要是非语言的语言的指称、描述性的指称、冠词的指称、代词的指称、语境中的指称、从句的指称六种,掌握这六种指称方式,对于正确表达、成功交际均有重要意义。

One of the missions of semantics is to clarify the relationship between the words and the things in the world, and the establishment of the relationship can＇ t be completed without the reference of words . After knowing the ways and approa- ches to which the words refer , can we also grasp the nature of relationship between the words and the things. There are six kinds of reference, the conventional forms are nonverbal language reference, descriptive reference, article＇ s reference, pro- nouns＇ reference, the reference in the context and the reference of the clause. Mastering the six kinds of reference have impor- tant significance on the correct expression and successful communication.
