The complementary relationship between an academic editor＇s editing work and academic research is described. The editing work is not only a process to optimize papers/articles, but also a process for the editor to learn and accumulate knowledge. The editing work may promote academic research, whereas the academic research can improve the editing. An excellent editor gives priority to editing work and may treat academic research as extra work, who can develop speciality and secondary talents while making a distinction between the main work and the secondary one. In this way, the editor can better promote advanced culture, scientific knowledge and academic thoughts so as to realize the academic editor＇s personal value as a ＂cultural man＂.
