１９１９年二月事件发生后，中华革命党人创办的《民国日报》以爱国、救亡为己任，驳斥日本政府制造事件、阴谋侵略中国的真相；揭露和批判北洋政府卖国贼的卖国罪行；唤醒民众爱国、救亡意识，引导广泛的二月民众运动，从而揭开了具有伟大历史意义的五四运动爆发的序幕。
