The characteristics of the abnormal wear of the piston assemblies and the cylinder liners of the main engine for MV 'Yang Cheng Hu' are pointed out. The two mechanisms which caused the abnormal wear are analysed and the main causes of the abnormal wear have been found out. To solve the problem of the abnormal wear of the main engine, a comprehensive technological transformation measure has been taken and the result is good.
