Nuclear transcription factor - kappa B ( NF -κB ) is an inducible transcription factor widely present in central nervous system, sequestering in the cytoplasm as an inactive complex with IκB inhibitory protein. When being stimulated, it will be activated and free to the nucleus. NF-κB plays an important role in transduction of signals from synaptic terminals to nucleus so as to initiate transcriptional responses and expression of downstream target genes. It involves in the process of learning and memory, and is closely related to memory formation, consoli- dation and reconsolidation.
