The milk powder is puzzling the makers, traders, buyers and even the regulators in different countries. Foreign-produced baby formula is popular in the Chinese market, where locally-made products are often considered to be contaminated and to be likely to result in illness. The Chinese parents do not trust the quality, standards,and creditworthiness of local makers. So a large number of foreign products are imported, and a lot of persons try to buy baby milk powder by their own methods from the overseas markets. A big wave of worries about Chinese milk powder has burst in 2013. Obviously t h e m o o d h a d b e e n oppressed for long before that. The first wave of worrieson milk contamination in China occurred in 2008, when three of the top dairy companies in the country were disclosed to have been affected by the presence of melamine, an industrial chemical normally used in plastics. A certain number of infants fell ill and some of them died. The foreign-produced milk powder comes into China's Mainland in variousways, for example, through general trade, OEM, overseas commissioned purchasing, or parallel traders. All of these methods are related to the customs supervision and services to some extent. But the customs duties have only a little influence on the powder's prices. The buyers' worries can be alleviated by detailed analyses in this report.
