The two-party system is a prominent feature of American political party system and, to some extent, represents its politi- cal characteristics. The article by Key, the famous scholar of American political science, analyzes the causes of the two-party pat- tern in the United States from the perspective of political environment and the two-party function. What kind of political party sys- tem a country adopts depends on the conditions of the country＇ s economic, political, social, historical development. We have ad- opted the multi-party cooperation and political consultation system under the leadership of the CPC, which is the inevitable choice of China＇ s social and historical development. That is what enlightens us when we examine the origin of the United States political parties.
