The short story, Dance, written by Akutawagw Lyunosuke, tells a chance meeting between the Japanese noblewoman, Miss. Akiko and the French officer, Mr. Pierre Lotty in Rokumekan' s dance. Using Miss. Akiko' s communicating manner and behavior with Mr. Pierre Lotty, the writer describes Japanese' s blind worship to the west at that time, which purposely satirizes that the Japa- nese diplomacy is extremely Europeanized. What' s more, the unpredictable ending expresses this theme deeply, that is, what the west is in Japanese' s eye is quite uneven in awareness and unequal in spirit with that in what Japan is in the west' s eye. This article tries to combine the Rokumekan' s diplomacy to analyze this novel' ,q theme and thought intention.
