The factors affected flocculating ability of polyacrylamide （PAM） and its derivatives, and the forms of usage of PAM in water treatment and the effect of treatment when it was used as an assistant flocculent were simply recounted. The experimental research and application of PAM in treatment of raw water, municipal domestic sewage, radioactive water, wastewater containing heavy metals and other industrial wastewater in China were introduced. The prospects of using PAM in the field of water treatment was prospected.
