杭州市公共场所公示语翻译错误实例分析

Study of C-E translation errors of public signs in Hangzhou

公示语是城市对外宣传的重要部分。从杭州市公共场所搜集到的357条公示语样本经30位母语为英语的外籍人士的评价,结果表明221条公示语译文存在问题。问题类型主要有9类:选词不当、文化差异及文化缺失、拼写及书写错误、语法错误、不地道、乱译、赘译、死译硬译及漏译。通过对部分典型错误实例进行分析及修改,以期引起社会各界对公示语翻译的重视。

Public sign exhibits its importance in promoting a city. In order to know the current condition of public sign translation in Hangzhou, 357 collected examples have been evaluated by 30 English native speakers. The result shows that there are errors in 221 examples. The errors can be classified into 9 types. They are wrong choice of words, cultural absence, spelling errors, grammatical errors, unidiomatic translation, random rigid translation and missing translation.
