Mr.Sammler's Planet is Saul Bellow's well-known Bildungsroman, which depicts three life stages of the Holocaust survivor Mr.Sammler,a Polish Jew,and his tough growth process. From the perspective of Bildungsroman, this article first analyses Mr.Sammler's dilemma, and how Mr.Sammler's mentor Dr.Gruner, who acts as the 'Navigation Mark',brings into play his exterior efficacy. On this basis, the article then combines the textual analysis and extra-analysis to excavate the profound interior efficacy of the 'Navigation Mark'.Exploring Mr.Sammler's Planet from the perspective of Bildungsroman not only gives us an sight into Bellow's religious view, political view and conception of literary creation, but also functions as a key to understand the American society in the 1960s.Dr.Gruner's guidance provides a right prescription for the Americans then, including the American Jews.
