浅谈长沙市公示语的英译问题

On the Translation of Changsha’s Public Signs

公示语英译在城市对外宣传中具有重要作用。但是，由于缺乏统一规范的管理，城市公示语英译的现状不容乐观，严重影响了城市形象。通过对长沙市公示语英译现状进行调查分析，发现存在拼写混乱、语法错误、语用错误、不符合英语表达习惯等问题。为此，城市公示语英译应注意以下几点：尽量简洁、明了；尽量直接使用对应的英语公示语；注意对文化背景的理解。

However, due to the lack of general standard management, the status quo of the translation of Changsha＇s public signs is not that optimistic and the image of the city has been stained badly. Such problems as misspellings, grammatical errors, pragmatic mistakes and unidiomatic expressions and so on are found out after our investigation and analyses. Therefore, proper emphasis should be laid on the following aspects： try to be concise and understandable; use the English equivalent of a public sign; pay attention to the cultural background.
