琉璃名称考辨

Names of Ancient Chinese Glass

中国古代玻璃器的名称十分复杂,这些名称的来源和使用给学术界带来了一定的困扰。此文以唐代"琉璃"和"玻璃"的关系为切入点,梳理了玻璃在中国古代不同时期名称和内涵的变化,探讨了"玻璃"与"琉璃"、"琉璃"与"琉璃釉陶器"的关系,以期对中国古代玻璃的名称有一个清晰的认识。

Scholars are often confused by the origins and use of names of ancient Chinese glass, which have a much complicated system. Beginning with the terms ＂liuli＂ [琉璃 ] and ＂boli＂ [玻璃] in the Tang dynasty, this paper gives a systematic description of the evolution of names of ancient Chinese glass and their connotations. The author then probes into the relations between ＂玻璃 ＂ and ＂琉璃 ＂ and between ＂琉璃 ＂ and ＂琉璃釉陶器＂ （glazed ceramic）.
