Caricatures come from life and exist to serve the people. The particularities of their genre require that they be na- tional and popular and their objective is to satirize with humor. This underlies Hua Junwu＇s creation of caricatures. He thinks that during the preparatory phase the caricaturist must gather plenty of source material, base the caricatures on his feelings and draw what comes from that part of life which he knows best; during the phase of conception he should aim at the uniqueness of subject and the originality of style and at the same time make use of satire and humor to highlight the main contradictions ; during the phase of actual delivery, he should strive to keep the national characteristics, ensure that the caricatures are true to life both in form and in spirit and give them a fitting title and a good caption to finish with.
