Subjectless Sentences in English

英语是一个非代词省略语,完整的句子通常是需要一个主语的,然而无主语句也常见。基于此,通过电视电影、传单广告、邮件、社交网络、文献等多种途径收集了120个英语的无主语句,分别从句法和语义角度分析考察。由此得出结论:无主语句通常用在现在时,主句中,以及主语是即时性人称代词时(I,you和we,而不是she/he,they和it)常省略,还有主语it的省略也占一定的比例。

English,a non-pron-drop language,normally requires a subject,but subjectless sentences frequently occur.To investigate them,120 examples collected from multiple sources,such as TV shows and movies,flyers and advertisements,bulk and personal mails,social websites,literature,and so on,are examined from syntactic and semantic perspectives.It is found that subjectless sentences occur more often with the present tense,in the main clauses,and with the pronouns with immediacy（I,you and we as opposed to s/he,they and it）,and subject ＂it＂ is occasionally omitted.
