In the western philosophy the word being appears in different forms such as verb, noun, participle, etc.,but its sense stems above all from its form of verb, which functions first of all as copula. It is impossible that its noun does not have the sense of copula, while its verb does have. Therefore,in the discussion of western philosophy the word being should be translated in to Chinese not as cunzai, which only means existence, but as Shi,which means primarily copula. And moreover,we should understand being in the sense of copula and insist on this translation and understanding throughout for the purpose of a better understanding of western philosophy.
