Over the era of Mubarak, normalized parliamentary elections have provided a legitimate channel for public involvement. The rise of popular forces has formed surging undercurrents in the process of democratization and shaped the social foundation of electoral politics. Nonetheless, being caught in a paradox in which the manipulated electoral politics contradicts the public participation, Egypt thus confronts an unbridgeable gap between the sustaining of the authoritarian regime and the political demand for democratization. " Election without democracy" is therefore doomed to develop into "democracy without election" . Inevitably, the transformation from manipulated electoral politics to bottom -up square politics constitutes the historical path leading to profound political changes experienced by Egypt.
