The operation procedures of external corrosion direct assessment of buried gas steel pipeline are introduced, which include pre-assessment, indirect inspection, direct inspection and post-assessment. The principle and instrument of indirect inspection as well as the standard basis of direct inspection, inspection contents, estimation of remaining life, requirements for inspectors and so on are discussed. The experience in actual indirect inspection and direct inspection is summarized.
