HAN Yu-mei was one of the characters of the novel Balibei. She possessed exceptional genius but experienced an unfortunate marriage and died at the age of thirty. It seemed that she had a casual death. In fact, however, such factors as the social surroundings in which she lived, her family and her own personalities attributed to her death. Recognition of the real reasons leading to her tragic fate not only can make a more objective explanation of her death that is consistent with humanistic mentality, but also can draw experience and lessons that may be beneficial both to personal happiness as well as that of all mankind altogether.
