"Spontaneous Writing" and "Stream of Consciousness"——The Comparison of Composing Methods in On the Road and A Portrait of the Artist as a Young Man

詹姆斯·乔伊斯的创作对杰克.克鲁亚克有着重大的影响,两者分属不同的时代与国度,但他们的作品却同属现代主义小说流派。前者凭借意识流的创作手法闻名于世,而后者则以独创"自发式写作"的创作方法而著称。结合两位作家的代表作《在路上》与《青年艺术家的画像》,客观分析比较这两种创作方法,探索其相通之处,从而揭示乔伊斯与凯鲁亚克之间在文学创作上的传承关系。

The composing method of James Joyce has a great influence on Jack Kerouac＇s.Although they lived in different times and countries,their works belong to the same school of Modernism.The former is famous for his application of ＂stream of consciousness＂ in his works while the latter is well-known for his creative ＂spontaneous writing＂ method.The paper compares and analyzes the composing methods used in A Portrait of the Artist as a Young Man and On the Road respectively aiming at revealing Kerouac＇s debt to Joyce.
