小说《西游记》通过语言、情节、意象,尤其两个主人公人物——孙悟空和唐僧的心路历程的展示,看出小说的主旨是意在写一部求放心的寓言书:绝对的自由固然可爱,但那多是宣泄而不是人生的最高境界,只有经过艰苦的追求,才能达到生命的最辉煌;一个人过于在意自己的感受,受环境左右,缺乏悟性和超脱精神,喜怒哀乐忧惧会始终羁绊着他,那他的人生也就缺乏有层次的递进的成长。

Journey to the West, in fact, is a fable book of seeking reassurance shown by its languages, plots and imagery, especially the depict of the life experiences of Sun Wukong and Tang Monk in it. Though absolute freedom is no doubt cute, it is only a way of catharsis rather than the highest state of life. Only through hard pursuit can one reach the peak of life. If one focuses so much on his own feeling, is always controlled by the environment, and is short of power of understanding and detached spirit, his life will be wanting in progressive growth.
