The author briefs the overview of the commerce and department store industry of Shanghai. Based on the comparison between the department store in Shanghai and in western countries, the author believes that there＇s huge potential for Shanghai. Taking Plaza 66 and Grand Gateway as successful examples, the author suggests that the commercial transformation should keep pace with the global trend; the commercial companies must be good at seizing opportunities; the priority of the department stores is establish unique operating characteristics; the key to the success of the shopping centers is outstanding architecture design, high-quality property and extended excellent service.
