Objectlve To study the changes of serum TGF- α. IGF-Ⅱ and plasma NPY.NT levels with the related mechanism during hemodialysis for patients with chronic renal failure (CRF). Methods Levels of the above four items were determined with RIA before and after hemodialysis in 45 patients maintained on chronic dial- ysis. Results Levels of TGF- α and IGF-Ⅱ could increase during the process of dialysis because some factors including the quality of the dialyser membrane might activate the mononuclear cells. Besides, there were abnormal- ities in the secretion of NPY and NT in patients with CRF, with level changes in opposite directions during hemodialysis (NPY ↓ and NT ↑ ). Conclusions Activation of mononuclear cells during hemodialysis as reflected in changes of TGF- α and IGF-Ⅱ levels might be beneficial to the organism, As important internal neural transmitters, NPY and NT might participate in the pathophysiologic process of the disease and the complicated hypertension.
