《镜花缘》作者身份及创作意旨的多元性、创作特征和文化价值三个方面,决定了其在中国小说史上的地位。《镜花缘》的思想艺术总体成就虽不及《红楼梦》、《水浒传》等书,但在不少方面有独到之处,是小说史上一部理想与现实结合,融知识性、奇幻性、趣味性于一体,具有较大创新意义的"别开生面"之作。
Jing Hua Yuan plays a very important role in the history of Chinese novels due to its authorship, diversified cre- ation intention, creative characteristics, and cultural values. Although its overall achievements, in terms of thinking of arts, are not as good as other literary works such as A Dream of Red Mansions and Shui Hu Zhuan, it does have its own knack in many aspects. Jing Hua Yuan, as a combination of both aspiration and reality, is an informative, fantastic and interesting masterpiece with great innovative significance in the histroy of Chinese novels.
