The principles, progress and biological effects of high intensity focused ultrasound are introduced, then its application is discussed for the treatment of gynecological benign tumors such as hysteromyoma and adenomyoma, gynecological inflammatory hyperplasia such as chronic cervicitis and nonneoplastic epithelial disorders of vulva, pregnancyrelated diseases such as ectopic pregnancy and placenta increta, and gynecological malignant tumors such as ovarian cancer and uterine sarcoma. The prospect of high intensity focused ultrasound in obstetrics and gynecology is explored, with its advantages over the traditionaltherapies.
