林语堂译创过程中体现的读者意识

Lin Yutang's Awareness of Readers Reflected in His Translations and Creations

林语堂学贯中西,译著等身。通过分析林语堂本人对读者观的相关阐述、其译创作品的选材、译创过程中的各种选择以及译创作品取得的域外效果说明林语堂具有强烈的读者意识,并从其文化观、语言语体观以及宗教哲学观等方面分析其读者意识形成的影响因素,最后指出林语堂所力求达到的作品可读性和传播中国文化的目的性之间的平衡与和谐对中国典籍翻译具有启示性作用。

Lin Yutang, a great scholar with a thorough knowledge of both China and the west, was productive in translation and creation. This paper, by analyzing Lin＇ s statement of his attitude towards readers, his selection of material, his choices in the process of translating and creating works and their reception effect in the western countries, explores Lin＇ s strong aware- ness of readers, and then analyses the factors influencing his formation of this awareness from his attitudes toward culture, lan- guage and style, and religion and philosophy. Finally, the paper points out that the balance and harmony between the readabil- ity of his works and the purpose of spreading Chinese culture which Lin strived for providing some revelations for the translation of Chinese classics.
