OBJECTIVE To analyze the application of closed suction in the plate exposure complicated with infections after lower extremity fracture surgery so as to provide basis for the clinical prevention and treatment of the infections after the fracture surgery. METHODS A total of 24 patients, to whom the plate exposure complicat-ed with infections occurred after undergoing the lower extremity surgery from Jul 2010 to Jul 2012, were enrolled in the study. The observation group was treated with the closed suction, as the same period 24 cases who were treated with the routine approach were set as the control group. The wound healing time, hospitalization duration , and healing rate after the treatment were compared between the two groups. RESULTS The wound healing time of the observation group was(22. 31 ±4. 32)days, significantly shorter than(26. 61 ± 5. 03)days of the control group; the hospitalization duration of the observation group was(28.01±3.27) days, significantly shorter than (34.27±4. 62)days of the control group; the healing rate of the observation group was 91.67%, significantly higher than 50.00% of the control group, the difference was statistically significant (P〈0.05). CONCLUSION The closed suction can achieve good clinical efficacy in the treatment of the plate exposure complicated with infec-tions in the patients undergoing lower extremity fracture surgery, shortening the recovery time as well as the hos-pital stay, and improving the healing rate, which is worthy to be promoted in the hospital.
