Du Fu Used Zen Method as his Way of Poem-Writing

化禅法为诗法,杜甫多用之。以暗合云门三句而言,杜诗"函盖乾坤"之法,在理、事、情上体现出一与多的圆融无碍。随波逐浪之法,自净其心,应机接物,不仅表现在立意造句,还表现在脉络安排与创作理念上。至于截断众流之法,更是杜诗的一大创造,具有出人意表、跌宕多姿的艺术效果,开启宋诗之一法门。

Abstract： Du Fu mostly used Zen method as his way of writing poems. In conformity with the Three Quotes of Yunmen Sects （云门三句 ）, Du Fu used the method of heaven and earth （乾坤之法 ）, which embodied the perfect integrity of one and many in reason, matter and emotion. He also used the drifting-with- the-tide method （随波逐浪之法）, purifying his heart by himself and treating everything according to the circumstances. This was manifested not only in creating new ideas and making sentences, but also in arranging ideas and presenting new concepts of writing. The water-cut-off method （截断众流之法） was a great creation by Du Fu in his poems, with an artistic effect of unexpectedness and rich variation, which opened up a new way of poem-writing in the Song Dynasty.
