多丽丝·莱辛著名的短篇小说《到十九号房间》对现代社会女性的身心给予了深切的关怀。该小说中的女主人公苏珊的心路历程分为两个阶段:从一位独立的自由女性妥协成为一个自相矛盾地完美的家庭主妇;而后因不满于绝望枯燥的家庭生活而转变成试图摆脱父权社会的牢笼的反叛者。苏珊的成长路途中伴随着其内心雌雄两种力量的斗争,这两种力量斗争也是导致其不幸的生活和自相矛盾的性格的源头。

＂To Room Nineteen＂, a prominent short story written by Doris Lessing, showed great Con- cerns over women＇ s physical and mental situation in modern society. The main character Susan in this story went through a psychological journey from an independent woman to a desperately self-contradic- tory ＂angel at home＂ and then to a ＂mad＂ woman yearning for liberation from the claustrophobia of pa- triarchy. The journey of Susan＇ s struggles against the patriarehic system was accompanied by ＇the bat- tles of masculine and feminine powers inside her. Susan＇ s typically miserable life and androgenic char- acteristie were production of the conflicts between these two powers.
