Dressing as a man is the most legendary part of Mulan story and is rewritten constantly from the Northern Dynasties （300--600） to Qing dynasty （1644--1912）. During the Northern Dynasty and the Tang Dynasty （618--907）, the story is moral and gentle without any details of the cross-dressing. In the Song （960--1279） and Yuan Dynasties （1271--1368）, the plot is ignored. However, In the Ming Dynasty （1368--1644）, the story emphases the details and the difficult keep pure. The story was enriched on the basis of the previous generations in the Qing Dynasty and had a significant impact on the current literature. The evolution of the text has something to do with historical and cultural customs and contains a complex cultural connotation.
