A Language Game-Based Study on Modal Verbs in Courtroom Questioning

情态动词作为言语交际活动的载体,体现了法庭审判中会话参与人之间语言的动态博弈。对抗或协作总是促使庭审参与人对情态动词的情态取向和情态量值做出积极的选择和调整,以实现其话语效用的最大化,且不同庭审参与人对情态动词的类别与量值的运用侧重不同,这可以从会话人不同的角色定位、话语目的和权势关系做出解释。

As one of the carriers of social conversation, modal verb reflects a dynamic language game among discourse partici- pants in courtroom questioning. Confrontation and collaboration actuate courtroom participants to make choice and adjustment in modal orientation and modal value to maximize their benefits. Besides, courtroom participants＇ preferences in the category and value of modal verbs are different, which can be explained by different courtroom roles, conversational purposes and power distri- bution.
