Barbara Kingsolver is a famous American writer, whose The Poisonwood Bible becomes popular since its publication and attracts some scholars' attention home and abroad. Up to now, few of Us take care of the colonial consciousness embodied in the novel. This article, based on the theory of postcolonialism, explores the racism, orientalism and Kingsolver' s positive attitudes towards colonialism in the novel; meanwhile, the article probes into Kingsolver' s depicting of African natives and African culture, her criticizing of the crimes of colonialism and imperialism, and her revealing of the doomed declining tendency of colonialism and imperialism, which embodies Kingsolver' s anti-colonialism. Thereupon, The Poisonwood Bible successfully embodies the contradictoriness of Barbara Kingsolver' s colonial consciousness.
