On the Coercion of Lexical Aspect by the Progressive Construction: A Perspective of Cognitive Grammar

摘要进行体构式表示特定时刻持续进行的活动或进展中的事件,能通过识解将各类动词压制成一致。进行体要么凸显各类动词的动态性中间过程或预备阶段,要么将动词所表示的事件通过总体扫描识解为整体,然后将一个个整体通过顺序扫描识解为过程,从而容纳各类动词。事件结构是进行体构式对词汇体压制的基础,而认知语法的详略度、凸显和扫描揭示了进行体构式对词汇体压制的机制。 The progressive construction represents the ongoing activity or the event in progress at a particular point of time. It can coerce all types of verbs into being congruent via construal. It either profiles the dynamic medial stage or the preparatory stage of a verb, or construes the event into a whole by summary scanning and then construes all the wholes into a process by sequence scanning, and thus accommodates all kinds of verbs. The event structure is the basis of the coercion of lexical aspect by the progressive construction while the specificity, salience and scanning of Cognitive Grammar illustrate the mechanism of the coercion
