In the early period of rendering Chinese fictions into English, most translators pursued other employment and only translated on individual basis during leisure time. With growing exchange between China and the rest of the world, more and more people are engaged in such translation activities, and we see increasing number of co-translations, collective translations, and cases of author-translator cooperation. Different agents actively relate with each other and the translating patterns have become more diversified and Interaetive. Dealing with the relationship between translators, translator and author, translator and institution, this paper delineates the development of translators' working patterns. The author explores how working patterns influence translation strategies and potential effects of the target texts, in an attempt to shed light on further researches of translation process and translator types.
