On December 9th, 2011, the Qinghai-Tibet HVDC interconnection project, so far the largest and the most challenging transformation and transmission project under the high altitude and atrocious weather condi- tions, was put into trial operation. The construction was started on July 29th, 2010, which consisted of three parts: the 750-kV Xining-Golmud AC transmission and transformation, the + 400-kV Golmud-Lhasa HVDC transmission and the 220-kV AC central Tibet power grid. The accomplishment and operation of the project ended the isolation of Tibet grid from the national power network,
