南京大屠杀前夕,福斯特、马吉和麦卡伦牧师以及其他二十多位在宁美籍人士积极筹划并创建了南京安全区国际委员会。日军侵占南京后,他们在安全区内做了大量艰苦的工作保护中国难民。作为南京大屠杀的亲历者,他们亲眼目睹了日军在宁暴行,并用日记、书信或者摄影的形式做了记录。这些资料在被传递到南京之外的地区之后,成为揭露日军暴行和见证南京大屠杀珍贵的第一手资料。马吉和麦卡伦牧师还曾亲自出席远东国际军事法庭为南京大屠杀出庭作证,不仅体现出这部分外籍人士揭露历史真相的决心,也显示了他们高尚的人道主义精神。
On the eve of Nanjing massacre, American missionaries, such as Forster, Maggie and McCallum together with another 20 Americans in Nanjing participated in creating the International Safety Zone Nanjing Committee and did many hard efforts to protect the China refugees. At the same time, as the personages experienced the Nanjing massacre personally, they witnessed the atrocities in Nanjing committed by Japanese invaders, they recorded these atrocities with the diaries, letters even the photographs and tried their best to delivered these materials to the outside of Nanjing, they became the precious first hand materials to expose the Japanese atrocities. In 1946, Maggie and McCallum testified for the Nanjing massacre in Far East International Military Court of Justice. This paper disclose the atrocities through the detailed description of the America's lives and the records they wrote in Nanjing, meantime, pay a tribute to their noble humanitarian spirit.
