A Contrastive Study of Semantic Prosody of Near Synonyms:A Bilingual Perspective

利用英汉平行语料库和可比语料库,探讨一组英汉对应近义词在搭配行为和语义韵方面的特征。研究发现,英汉近义词在语义韵方面具备相同或相异的特征,二者在搭配、内涵义、语义趋向、语义韵特征、语义韵强度方面呈现不同程度的对应关系。语义韵的对应是确立跨语言近义词对应关系的重要因素。

This paper explores the semantic prosodic features of a group of near synonyms in English and their equivalents in Chinese, drawing upon data from a parallel corpus and two comparable corpora. The results show that the se-mantic prosody of near synonyms in English and their translation equivalents in Chinese have similarities and differences, and tend to exhibit various degrees of correspondence in terms of collocation, connotative meaning, semantic prefer-ence, semantic prosody and prosodic strength. Similarities in semantic prosody are vital in establishing the correspondence of near synonyms from a cross-lin-guistic perspective.
