The Historical Retrospect and Current Challenges of China’s Cultural Diplomacy towards Portuguese-Speaking Countries

文化外交作为外交的第四个支柱，是对当今国际关系领域中国家、市场与社会三者互动的有效应对，是传统政治、经济、军事外交的有益补充，并与其共同构成我国外交的有机体系。文化外交以软实力理论、国家形象理论及跨文化传播与文明对话理论为依托，在当前及今后我国外交政策中占据愈来愈重要的地位，是未来我国外交的新亮点。新中国对葡语世界的文化外交有效地提升和拓展了我国的国家利益。面对转型期变化莫测的国际体系，我国对葡语世界的外交政策也面临诸多挑战。只有继续并深化对葡语世界的文化外交，才能在日益重要的葡语世界中维护并强化我国的国家利益。

As the fourth pillar of diplomacy, cultural diplomacy effectively deals with the interactive relations between the state, market and society in current international relations. It is the useful complement to the traditional political, economic and military diplomacy. Cultural diplomacy is based on soft power theory, national image theory and intercultural communication theory. It will be the new highlight of China＇s diplomacy and occupies an increasingly important position in its foreign policy. The People＇s Republic of China＇s cultural diplomacy has effectively enhanced and expanded China＇s interests. With complex international system in the transition period, China＇s foreign policy towards Portuguese-speaking countries is facing a lot of challenges. In order to protect and enhance our national interests in the Portuguese-speaking world, it is of growing importance to continue and deepen the cultural diplomacy in this regard.
