作为一个文化机构,文化功能是大学的内生性功能,是大学独特价值的体现。在科学霸权与极端工具理性的影响下,当代社会正经历着价值的匮乏和精神的荒漠。因而重塑先进的社会道德、伦理与价值观标准,促成人的精神解放,就成为大学的当代使命。永恒主义所倡导的以名著阅读为标志的经典教育,对诊治社会精神与道德疾患有着重要价值,这为大学践行文化使命提供了启示。西南大学名著运动反映了大学的文化使命与责任担当,具有深刻的时代性、社会性意义。

As a cultural organization, culture function is the intrinsic function of university, and em-bodies university＇s unique value. Contemporary society, influenced by scientific hegemony and extreme instrumental reason, is experiencing the value of scarcity and the spirit of the desert. So remodeling the standards of advanced social morality, ethnics and value, and liberating human spirit become the contem- porary mission of university. Classical education initiated by Perpetualism is of great importance for rem-edying social spirit and morality disease, which provides enlightenment for university to practice culture mission. The Classics Movement at Southwest University reflects the university＇s culture mission and re-sponsibility and has contemporary and social sense.
